Charter of James II 1688, held at Dorset History Centre (DC-PL/A/1/16). On 27 Jun 1683 James II issued a writ of Quo Warranto calling upon the Mayor to show what authority the Borough had to exercise its privileges. No new charter was granted during his reign. On 15 Sep 1688 James II granted Poole a charter which the burgesses refused to accept because of many encroachments into their liberties. A new charter was issued on 8 Dec 1688 completely restoring the ancient privileges.
