Charter of Elizabeth I 1568, held at Dorset History Centre (DC-PL/A/1/13). Letters patent including an Inspeximus and Confirmation of the 1433 Henry VI, 1453 Henry VI, 1462 Edward IV and the 1511 Henry VIII charters with additional privileges including the rights of an incorporated corporation with a major, two bailiffs, burgesses and commonalty; the right to hold various markets such as the County Court, General Sessions, Court of Pie Powder and Weekly Court; the right to imprison; the right to elect a mayor, bailiffs, sheriff, coroner and two constables of the Staple; and the authority to purchase land. Election of Public Officers, Poole 1746

Transcription of extract from Salisbury Journal 22nd September 1746 reads: "Poole. September 20th- Yesterday came on the Election of Public Officers of this Town and County when William Williams, Esq. was chosen mayor, Samuel Bowles, Gent., High Sheriff and Mr John Ollive, water-bailiff, for the year ensuing."
