This Monument was erected by his sorrowful Relict as a token of her Everlasting Love for him He died in London June 20th A.D.1755 In the 64th Year of his Age and lies buried near this place

Patey Memorial photographed in Canford Church, June 2015 Information included: .Also to the memory of Lieut Commander Russell Patey R.N. The beloved eldest son of the above G E Patey and L his wife. He fell a victim to arduous duties on the coast of Africa at The island of Ascenssion ( Where he lies Buried) on the 4th of March 1852 in the 35th year of his useful life and the 22nd of constant active service in most parts of the World, his last was rendered a few weeks before in Command of Her Majesty’s Steamer Bloodhound at the conquest of Lagos in which during the two days engagement his gallantry and talents were officially mentioned by the Commander in Chief as “BEYOND ALL PRAISE” He possessed the noblest of natures ever humane and generous ,as brave and highly talented and most kind and affectionate in all the ties of life. This tablet was erected by his sorrowing and afflicted widow Augusta Ross Patey

He departed this Life January 23rd 1723 aged 73 And of Dame Mary his Wife Who died May 1st 1725 aged 44 Also of George Phipard Their Son Who died August 28th 1739 aged 24 Also of Elizabeth Phipard their Grandaughter Who died February 4th 1767 aged 17 Also of John Phipard another Son of the above named Sir William & Dame Mary and Father of the said Elizabeth Phipard Who died April 10th 1774 aged 63 Having by his Will orderd this Monument to be erected. Near this Place lie the Remains of Elizabeth Wife of William Cleeves late Merchant of this Town Daughter of the above named Sir William and Dame Mary Phipard Who died March 31st 1769 aged 55 Also of William Phipard Esquire eldest Son of the above named Sir William and Dame Mary who died December 27th 1788 Aged 80 Years

Russell Memorial photographed in Canford Church, June 2015 Information included: Thomas Macnamara Russell Esquire Admiral of the White. late Commander in Chief in the North Seas. He actively served his Country Seventy Years with ardour, bravery and ability and combated her enemies in Thirty six engagements. His most undaunted spirit of enterprize during the first revolutionary wars of America and France was unrivalled. In1784 he was offered The Honour of Knighthood and at the close of his brilliant career he receieved the warmest acknowledgements from the Admiralty for his superior conduct as a Naval Chief His successful blockade of the Texel during the threatened invasion of our shores was conducted on a new and admirable system of his own. He was the first who had ever dared to anchor a Fleet there in the strongest gales of a Northern Winter and on an enemy’s lee shore. Heligoland surrendered to him by which he secured invaluable advantages to his Country. The Magnanimous intrepid and generous heart of a British Seaman was united in him with the urbanity of a Courtier. He departed This Life on the 22nd Day of July 1824 in his 85th Year. Elizabeth his Wife Died on the 2nd of March 1818 in her 66th Year

Also of Robert Standley Slade who died at Fogo in the Island of Newfoundland. February the 21st 1846 Aged 23 Years. Also of Robert Slade, Merchant and Magistrate of this Town; Father of the above, who died the 3rd January 1864.Aged 68 Years. His remains with those of his eldest Son, are interred in the Church Yard Near this place

Also of William Spurrier Son of the above. William and Mary Who died April 18th 1800 aged 37 Years. Also of ANN second wife of the first named WILLIAM SPURRIER who died the 28th July 1841 Aged 83 Years.

Transcription of extract from Salisbury Journal 12th January 1747 reads: "The "Thomas and Robert", Taverner, from Newfoundland for Poole, is taken by the French and carried into Brest. The master was unhappily washed overboard and drowned."
